Royal University for Women (RUW) is the first private, purpose-built, international university in the Kingdom of Bahrain dedicated solely to educating women. RUW provides a comfortable environment in which to create leaders, develop vibrant personalities, dynamic decision makers, independent thinkers and community-conscious individuals. RUW's initial degree programmes were designed in collaboration with two reputed universities, McGill University in Canada and Middlesex University in the U.K.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be successfully admitted into a programme of study at Royal University for Women, kindly adhere to the below admission requirements including the necessary attestations;

General entry requirements for Undergraduate Studies

Show evidence of having successfully completed Secondary Education or its equivalent in the Kingdom of Bahrain or overseas, attested by the Ministry of Education, Kingdom of Bahrain (MoE).

Show evidence of a minimum level of English Language Proficiency, the following are examples of internationally accredited tests of English Language with the corresponding levels of proficiency required by RUW:

 

  • IELTS overall band score of 5.5, or
  • TOEFL: paper-based 513; or Computer-based 183; or Internet-based 65, or
  • RUW English Placement Test overall band score of 5.5

 

If the applicant fails to successfully provide the above, then she would be required to enroll on the RUW Orientation programme (English for Academic Success) before being able to join her chosen major.

Some programmes may also require applicants to take an interview and/or submit additional documentation or portfolios.

Applicants to the College of Business & Financial Sciences (CBFS) programmes require Mathematics proficiency where applicants should have a minimum average score of 60% in mathematics subjects in grade 12.

Applicants to the Architectural Design Programme should come from a Science track in High School and should have a minimum average score of 60% in Mathematics and Physics subjects in High school. Students who do not satisfy this criteria are required to take a compulsory LAR course in Mathematics in Semester 1. This course will be a prerequisite for (ARD 1011).

Applicants to the Architectural Design Programme from Humanity or other tracks in High School will be requested to provide proof of creative skills, determined through portfolio, and interview. Upon admission they will be required to take a compulsory LAR Course in Mathematics that will be delivered during semester 1 and is a prerequisite for (ARD 1011).

All documents included with an application for admission become the property of RUW and are retained in the students’ file until graduation.

General entry requirements for Postgraduate Studies

Applicants to the graduate studies program are required to fulfill the following requirements:

Applicants must have a bachelor degree with a GPA of 2.3, or equivalent qualifications with good academic standing in the same specialized field or other areas related to the current programme of studies.

The applicant who has a university degree in a relevant field with less than GPA of 2.3 may have to complete prerequisite courses assigned by the relevant department.

If applicable, applicants’ work experience will be taken into consideration in assessing admission to the programme. In that case, the applicant should be interviewed by the department to evaluate his/her past work experience and its reference to the content of study.

An applicant who has a university degree not fully relevant to the field of study may be accepted to register for graduate studies. The department may assign some of the prerequisite courses for the applicant to complete before registration to the programme.

Evidence of English language proficiency with a minimum requirement being an IELTS score of 6.0, TOEFL: paper-based 550 or Computer-based 210; or Internet-based 78, or a band score of 6 in the RUW English language test

The applicant who has less than these English test scores may have to complete a foundation English course.

Student general entry requirements for Master of Design Management;

 

  • Applicants must have a bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 2.3 in one of the following areas of specialization: Design (Interior, Graphic and Fashion, and others), Applied Arts, Fine Arts, and Architecture. In addition other areas related to the specializations mentioned above such as Information Technology, Management and the different engineering specializations, and others can also be considered for admission.
  • If applicant has a bachelor degree with less than 2.3 they will have to complete the pre-requisite courses decided by the College.
  • In case applicants are from specializations other than the Art and Design fields and have not done they must successfully complete two pre-requisite or equivalent courses. These are offered as Foundation courses before the applicant enrolls in the Masters Programme. Two pre-requisite Foundation (PMAD) courses are required for the enrolment to Masters programme in Design Management, they are:
  • PMAD 501   History and Theory of Art & Design
  • PMAD 502  Media & Culture of Art & Design.

 

Applicable, applicants’ work experience may be taken into consideration in assessing admission to the program. In this case, the applicant should be interviewed by the department to evaluate his/her past work experience and its reference to the content of study. These students, upon admission will also be required to take the PMAD courses mentioned above.

 

  • Applicants must show evidence of a minimum level of English language proficiency in line with internationally accredited tests of English language with the corresponding levels of proficiency required by RUW.
  • IELTS overall band score of 6.0, or
  • TOEFL: Paper-based 550, or Computer-based 210, or Internet-based 78, or
  • RUW English Placement Test over all band score of 6.0

 

If applicant does not show evidence of sufficient English skills, they will be required to take a Foundation English course offered at RUW:

 

  • PMAD 500  English
  • Applicants are required to come for interview with a portfolio of their artwork

 

 Student general entry requirements for Master of Fine Arts in Drawing & Painting;

Applicant must have a bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 2.3 in one of the following areas of specialization: Fine Arts, Applied Arts and Design, or equivalent qualifications with good academic standing.

 

  • Applicants are required to come for interview with a portfolio of their artwork.
  • If applicant has a bachelor degree with a GPA less than 2.3 they will have to complete the pre- requisite courses decided by the college.
  • Other areas related to the specializations mentioned above can also be considered for admission. Talented applicants from other specializations in graduation may be accepted upon a portfolio review and will have to take two pre-requisite Foundation (PMAD) courses as decided by the college.

 

These pre-requisite courses are:

 

  • PMAD 501   History and Theory of Art & Design
  • PMAD 503 Drawing & Painting: Material & Techniques.

 

Applicant must show evidence of a minimum level of English language proficiency in line with internationally accredited tests of English language with the corresponding levels of proficiency required by RUW.

 

  • IELTS overall band score of 6.0, or
  • TOEFL: Paper-based 550, or Computer-based 210, or Internet-based 78, or
  • RUW English Placement Test over all band score of 6.0.

Required Documents

 

  • Passport copy (Minimum 3-4 months validity) (colour copy is preferable).
  • Government ID copy.
  • 4 passport-sized photographs.
  • Medical certificate from a recognized hospital. (List is available at the RUW Admissions Office) (must contain words "Fit to Study")
  • Original evidence of proficiency in English (IELTS, TOEFL or RUW Placement Test).
  • Original high school transcripts & certificate (10th, 11th & 12th Grade) and certificates attested by Bahrain government (Name as on passport)
  • Original equivalency letter from Ministry of Education in Bahrain (Must contain percentage). (Name as on passport) (if applicable)
  • Letter of No Objection (NoC) (if applicable)

 

Additional documents for Postgraduate applicants are as follows;

 

  • Original bachelor transcripts & certificates (attested by Ministry of Education) (Name as on passport)
  • Original equivalency letter for Bachelors from Ministry of Education in Bahrain (Must contain percentage). (Name as on passport)( for Bahrainis who studied abroad)
  • Letter of No Objection (NoC) (if applicable)
  • 2 recommendation letters

 

Attestations Process

Local applicants must show evidence of having successfully completed Secondary Education or its equivalent in the Kingdom of Bahrain or overseas, attested by the Ministry of Education, Kingdom of Bahrain (MoE). International applicants must obtain a number of attestations on all official documents before or during the process of applying at RUW. Attestations are mandatory as they are required by the Higher Education Council of the Ministry of Education in Bahrain.Government and private high schools of other countries should have their original high school certificates stamped by the following:

For GCC schools

  • High School
  • Ministry of Education of the issuing country
  • Embassy of issuing country in Bahrain
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bahrain

For non GCC schools

  • High School
  • Ministry of Education of the issuing country
  • Bahrain embassy in that country
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs in that country
  • Embassy of issuing country in Bahrain
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bahrain

Application Process

If an applicant meets all the above concerned criteria, you are welcome to begin the Application Process wherein you must supply the necessary documentation as well.

Some programmes may also require applicants to take an interview and/or submit additional documentation or portfolios.

All documents included with an application for admission become the property of RUW and are retained in the students’ file until graduation.

TUITION FEES

Fees for each academic session are approved annually and published on the RUW web site www.ruw.edu.bh. Final fee is confirmed at the time of registration.

Registration, Administration and Campus Fee 300 BD/- per semester. This is a non-refundable fee required of all students to confirm their registration.

Degree Programme fees are charged on a credit per course basis. A full programme is normally 30 credits per academic year; degree completion requires a minimum of 132 credits.
